Updates to CDP Board of Directors
The Contributor Development Partnership (CDP) Names Deanna Mackey Board Chair, Welcomes Max Duke and Luis Patiño to Board of Directors
BOSTON, MA (September 28, 2026)—The Contributor Development Partnership (CDP) today announced that Deanna Mackey, general manager of KPBS in San Diego, has been named chair of its Board of Directors. CDP also welcomed two new board members: Max Duke, president and CEO of Pennon, and Luis Patiño, president and CEO of Austin PBS. Together they will guide CDP’s work at a moment when public media organizations are rethinking how they sustain both their mission and their revenue. The board roles begin immediately.
“I’m thrilled to have Deanna step into the role of chair. She has led on both sides of the challenge public media faces right now: running a local public media organization day to day and leading the country’s largest PBS organizations as a group. That view from both the local and system level makes her the right leader for this moment, as CDP helps public media organizations optimize mission and revenue, accelerate innovation, and put shared data intelligence to work,” said Michal Heiplik, president and CEO of CDP. While Jon Abbott is stepping down as chair, he remains on CDP’s board as an independent director. “Jon has been part of the CDP journey since the very beginning, and I am glad he continues to guide our path forward,” Heiplik added.
“Max and Luis will strengthen and complement that vision. Max brings a national understanding of what local organizations need from their partners to grow. Luis brings a career spent building audiences and new products across Spanish-language and public media. With the three of them at the leadership table, our board reflects the full range of organizations we serve and has the perspective to lead the system forward,” added Heiplik.
Mackey has led KPBS in San Diego as general manager since 2022. Before that, she served as president of the Public Television Major Market Group (PTMMG), a consortium of the 40 largest PBS member stations in the U.S., where she led revenue generation and audience development for the group. Her commitment to public media’s future extends to its people. She co-founded Public Media Women in Leadership (PMWL), which prepares women and men of color to become senior leaders in the field. Mackey joined the CDP board in 2022.
“I’m honored to be chosen to serve as chair of CDP’s Board of Directors. CDP’s shared services are vital to sustaining the system’s public service, especially now, as our industry reimagines its future without federal funding. We need to find ways to be efficient and learn from each other. CDP’s developing Audience Activation Platform, the continued growth of innovative services, and the new partnership with NPR will help the public media system move forward in exciting ways,” said Mackey.
Max Duke brings more than 25 years of public media leadership at the national and local levels to the CDP board. Before leading Pennon, the parent organization of WITF and Pennon Education, he was vice president of station strategy and development at PBS, where he worked alongside stations nationwide to strengthen their journalism, education, and community work. “CDP gives local public media organizations something none of us could build alone, and I’m excited to help it do even more for the system,” said Duke.
Luis Patiño brings the audience and product expertise of commercial media to public media. Before leading Austin PBS, he ran Univision stations in Los Angeles, Austin, and San Antonio, where he built products and audiences across digital, radio, and television. “Public media’s future depends on reaching new audiences where they are, and CDP is building the tools to help every station do that,” said Patiño.
