CDP Team Spotlight

Zach Brown, Client Solutions and Support Coordinator

Tell us what you do at CDP and what a typical day might look like for you:

As a client solutions and support coordinator, I am invested in the day-to-day operations of our partner stations. A typical day for me could involve answering questions our clients have about CRM management, setting up new station users in various platforms, and meeting with stations to assist them with reporting, tracking donors, or anything else they need addressed! A key part of my position is internal and external documentation. I create Knowledge Articles on everything from new CRM features to a wide array of operations processes. I'm also heavily involved in Lean solutions application, a new project that aims to bring strategic alignment to current cross-team workflows such as User Set Up and KA creation.

One of my proudest positions at CDP is my work for the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. There, I work with a dedicated team to make sure that BIPOC and marginalized voices are supported and uplifted within CDP. The commitment of our team, and of the entire company, is truly inspiring!

What inspires/excites you about your work?

Like many kids across America, I had limited access to the TV and Internet as a child. PBS was always there for me and served as early education and entertainment that I could rely on. As I grew up, I began listening to NPR, which was a staple in my home. Now in my career, helping to support local stations directly in their mission to inform, educate and entertain everyone in their community means so much to me. Working at CDP among so many empowered and committed people is healing to my past self and inspiring to my current self!

If you weren't working at CDP, what would your dream job be?

I worked for seven years as a Museum Educator and Docent Manager at large and small museums across the United States. It was my childhood dream to promote the history of Indigenous, Black and immigrant voices of all backgrounds through public history. After I left the museum field, I began working at a small food pantry in my hometown of Salem, MA. I saw firsthand the direct impact that nonprofits can have on the communities I care about. Now, with CDP, I've learned that pursuing a career in public media is a powerful pathway toward my lifelong goals and I can make a real change for those who grew up like me. Now, I want to get my master's degree in nonprofit management and continue this important work!

What are you watching/streaming/reading/listening to these days?

I am an unabashed Antiques Roadshow fanatic. When I'm not cheering at the screen for a 300-year-old side table appraised at $1 million, you can find me listening to paranormal podcasts, reading nonfiction history on the Columbian Exchange and watching anything that David Attenborough has narrated.

What's something you've always wanted to try or learn to do?

I'd love to strengthen my Spanish language skills. I'm conversational at best from traveling and my friendships, but I'd like to start formal lessons soon and really grow into fluency!
